Publisher Description

Paul Johannes Tillich was a German-American Christian existentialist philosopher and Lutheran Protestant theologian who is widely regarded as one of the most influential theologians of the twentieth century. Using its insights to better understand human doubts and anxiety, as well as to challenge life's destructive forces, he very early on identified the dangers of scientific materialism, religious fundamentalism, and industrialization and its commodification of nature. Exposing the sense of meaninglessness each contributed to the nascent modern worldview, he went on to formulate his radical concept of the “God above God,” helping bridge the gap between the secular and the religious.

In this book, the author presents, in clear language, the basic concepts, and ideas in Tillich’s challenging magnum opus, his three-volume "Systematic Theology."
