Following the sudden, though entirely expected, death of Anne de Bourgh, Mr. Darcy is freed to marry anyone he wishes. After a year spent searching, however, he grows weary of the endless parties and dinners, and decides to winter at his family's cottage in Scotland. There, he intends to read, eat simple food, and spend his evenings by a roaring fire in solitude.
