Winner of the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Mystery/Suspense
Two broken souls must decide how far they're willing to go—for justice, for vengeance, and for each other.
Ellie Broussard has only one purpose: to find and destroy the monster that stole her child. But when she drags a drowning boy from the Louisiana bayou, she finds herself face-to-face with Sean McDougal. Charismatic, charming, challenging–the Irishman is a distraction Ellie can't afford.
Sean is no stranger to loss. A widower, his sole focus is the son he'd die to protect and his job–a job that currently involves recovering a cache of stolen art before it disappears for good. He isn't looking for love. But the woman who saved his boy is undeniably compelling. Wounded. Dangerous. Unforgettable.
Thrown together on a hunt for the missing cache, Ellie and Sean are forced into an uneasy partnership. As secrets unravel and trust begins to build, they find themselves drawn into a darker game—one where the rules are written in blood, and a young girl's life hangs in the balance.
Because the killer Ellie's been chasing is closer than she ever imagined…and he's preparing to strike again.
