The 20th century conferred many changes to the way we live our lives. Wars of unbelievable scope changed the relationships between global superpowers. Diverse ideologies created a complex and confusing political landscape. Globalization, the internet and wireless communications shrank the world and brought its citizens closer together.


Yet, at times, we seem farther apart than ever before.  And for all the advances we have made, we seem to have lost our bearing on the compass guiding our religious pilgrimage. We know much, but doubt more. We embrace new technology yet abandon our faith in the old ways.


In the Garden Alone is a collection of sermons and essays centering on faith in the age of faithlessness. A spiritual journey of exploration through the realms of theology, philosophy, love and life, the book is written from the perspective of a preacher who believed in the ways of the Christian Church but acknowledged that they needed reform. It analyzes scripture while firmly rooting itself in the secular world. It is at once a welcoming invitation to intellectual and spiritual rumination and a call to worship; it reminds us that the garden still exists, transcending worldly strife, waiting to be rediscovered.
