Melmoth The Wanderer (1820) is a gothic novel by Charles Robert Maturin. An Irish scholar, Melmoth, sells his soul to the devil in exchange for immortality. Melmoth wanders through his tortured life in search of someone who will take the bargain off his hands so that he can die a natural death.
