Descripción editorial

Teaching children how to read music and play the recorder or any instrument is a process that begins in kindergarten. Children must have a basic foundation in experiencing all of the elements of music before they begin to learn the discipline of reading musical notation and playing a musical instrument.

Children learn how to read a language only after several years of listening, observing, experimenting, and repeating. The gradual exposure to letters and written words is the natural progression to language comprehension, use, and, ultimately, reading.

Teaching Music Reading Skills (TMRS) is a method of teaching—

Based on the concept of learning language;
That has evolved as a result of over 30 years of use in the elementary music classroom;
That works with a wide spectrum of learners—students with autism, exceptional ed students, life skills students, gifted students;
That has been successful in inner city and suburban schools;
That encourages differentiated learning.
