The Candidate

James ‘Mac’ MacNamara has two competing dreams: to win the heart of his long-time friend Ginny Hayes and be accepted into the top 1% of armed forces as part of New Zealand’s elite SAS. When his attempt to convince Ginny they have a shot at being more than ‘just friends’ fails, Mac focuses himself on his life as an NZSAS soldier. This requires him to all but disappear from his old life – and Ginny. Nearly six years later Ginny has won the account of her career and is just staying on top of the fast pace required to run her growing business. Having learnt the true extent of Mac’s ambition she has grown used to the infrequency with which she sees her once best friend. When Mac suddenly reappears in Auckland and announces his intention to stay for the summer, Ginny suspects there is more to his story. As they re-negotiate the terms of their friendship, an increasingly frightening and dangerous series of events forces Ginny to rely on Mac while she struggles with a challenging project that could make or break her business. As the Auckland summer builds, so too does the threat to Ginny and the undeniable heat between her and Mac.
