Marie Corelli (1 May 1855 – 21 Apr 1924) was a British writer. Until World War I her publications were extremely popular. Despite the fact, that her writings were regarded as the favorite of the multitude, Corelli’s works sold more copies that most of popular authors of that time call together, including Arthur Conan Doyle, Herbert Well and Rudyard Kipling. During the First World War, Corelli's reputation suffered when she was convicted of food hoarding. A recurring theme in Corelli's writings is the attempt to reconcile Christianity with mysticism.

Thelma is a novel by Marie Corelli. The story is focused on love affairs of main heroine, after whom the novel is named. Thelma is loved by a man from distant and cold Norway.
