Buffalo Springs, Tennessee is a sleepy little town where neighbors are quick to lend a helping hand and folks don't bother locking their doors. But once every generation, a strange red mist creeps over the town and death quickly follows....
When the body of a young woman is found, forensic investigator Ramsey Clark is called in. She's familiar with the legend of the mist and the curse the townspeople only whisper about. But Ramsey is unmoved by superstition, despite what she's told by Devlin Stryker, the parapsychologist with his own interest in the case. Then another murder sends the close-knit community reeling, and Ramsey begins to wonder if a killer is using the legend of the mist as cover for his crimes, or if a prophecy is being fulfilled--one victim at a time.
