Publisher Description

This book describes A Story of a Pair of Spectacles which I am and have been wearing since 12 years of old.

Today’s topic is about Spectacles!

Happiness is being able to see clearly again.

True Happiness comes from wearing spectacles.

True good sight also means contentment not only with vision but also family, friends and life in every aspect.

When I was a young boy in staying in a rural community (“kampong”) in Singapore, I was reading both books and textbooks using a kerosene lamp (powered by kerosene).

There is currently no evidence at all to suggest that reading in poor light damages the eyes.

However, one thing is definite: reading by light requires more strain on the eyes to make out the words.

This makes reading more strenuous, and my eyes get tired more quickly, potentially resulting in red eyes and headaches.

I love to read both fiction and non-fiction books which I was able to borrow free from branches of the national library.

I was reading literally 60 books a month.

My parents notice that my eyesight was becoming poorer (nearsightedness) with each passing day.

They did not send me to an eye doctor. They were too expensive.

I was sent to an optician (who tests eyesight and sell eyeglasses) instead who fitted me with my first pair of spectacles.

Suddenly the world appears so much clearer and brighter.

I could see from afar the number of the bus instead of waiting till it reaches the bus stand.

My English improved from the reading of books and I began to top my classes in all the subjects that were taught.

My spectacles become a part of me and I never left anywhere without my spectacles.

It does not matter what shape the spectacles was in and how it looked on my face.

All that matters was that I could see clearly with them.

I have been constantly using glasses since 12 years old.

By keeping my eyes healthy, I keep my brain healthy by improving my overall quality of life!

Good vision contributes to improved learning and comprehension and better quality of life

Happiness is also being able to see clearly and being able to read all the books that I like, watch television with my family and write books just by wearing spectacles.

My love affair with my spectacles persists up to today.

I wore all types of spectacles throughout the years.

As a child I thought I could look at the eclipse of the sun by staring at the sun.

Now I know the sun rays can harm my eyesight so I take to wearing photo-gray eye glasses which can darken in the presence of sunlight hoping to protect my eye sight.

Wearing glasses does not make the eyes stronger and not wearing glasses does not make the eyes weaker.

Eyeglasses do not make astigmatism go away; they correct the optical aberration caused by the astigmatism.

I did not use contact lenses or try Lasik when they arrived to help the nearsighted.

I prefer to stick to my spectacles and sunglasses.

At one stage after my cataract operation I had perfect eyesight from the replacement of the lens but with the passing years, astigmatism and farsightedness have appeared and I am still wearing spectacles.

Here are some of the advantages of wearing spectacles:

1. Spectacles can look great and fashionable.
2. The Improved Sight
3. Protection from dirt and dust and the sun’s damaging UV rays

Honestly, the early days of wearing spectacles can be difficult, like every time I had to teach them to maintain their proper position on my face.

Now my spectacles have become a part of me.

They have shared almost every inch of my experience from right eye to left eye.
