Bennett Butte "Bivouac of the Dead‪"‬

This research examines the last battles of the Bannock War of 1878. Colonel Nelson A. Miles engaged a small band of Bannocks along the Clark's Fork of the Yellowstone River before sunrise in early September. It ties together eyewitness accounts, military records, and extremely focused "historical" interpretations to provide the first thorough narrative and analysis of the event. Furthermore, arguments are provided as to the actual site of the battle, the fate of the Bannock prisoners, and the authenticity of evidence discovered in the 20th century purportedly related to the battle.
