Montana Stone left her career as a crime analyst to start over on the Alabama Gulf Coast. She was proud of her work with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department until the day an error she made in her job cost her father's life. Now, she's seeking a new life, one without the responsibilities of police work and crime analysis. But when the local chief of police, Jett Jeanrette, seeks her help in stopping a serial killer, Montana finds herself conflicted.

She's torn between her fear and grief and the desire to stop the killer hiding somewhere in the thousands of rental condominiums lining the coast. She decides to help police stop the killer, with just a few days left before a major festival will draw thousands to the community. And just before Montana's best friend, Miranda, arrives to join in the festivities. Police set a trap using ideas Montana developed but not before the killer captures Miranda. Montana tries to find the killer and save Miranda––and tries to do it without becoming the killer's next victim.
