Publisher Description

John Donne was born on January 22, 1572, in London. He was an English poet who was considered as one of the greatest representatives of the metaphysical poetry. He wrote a lot of religious poems, love poems, sonnets, epigrams, songs, elegies, satires and sermons. He died on march 31, 1631 at the age of 59, of stomach cancer.

He wrote this book when he was ill, fighting with fever and destroyed by the death of his wife, several of his children and many close friends. This book is a collection of incredible writings, meditations on illness and dying, and a sermon. In the book, Donne has organized his reflection into chapters in which he describes in details the onset of sickness, the coming of the doctors to cure the patient and the warning that the patient may relapse.

The Devotions apart from being a narrative of sickness are also a metaphor of the spiritual life, in which the author asks himself about God and the existence of diseases.

The Deaths Duel is a sermon that the author wrote shortly before his death.

In this book you will find big trauma and great drama and questions about the meaning of mortality, the possibility of salvation and the truth about the crossing over.
