Gallegos v. Mt. Sinai Medical Center

Rita Moreno Gallegos was an employee of Mt. Sinai Medical Center ("Mt. Sinai") who applied for employee welfare benefits with Mt. Sinais insurance carrier UNUM Life Insurance Company of America ("UNUM"). Her request for benefits was denied, and Gallegos filed suit, claiming that this denial violates the Employee Retirement Insurance Security Act ("ERISA"), 29 U.S.C. sec. 1001, et seq. The district court granted summary judgment to the defendants. For the reasons stated below, we affirm.
