Incidental Dominion in Life -Stupa

Songgwang-sa is located, snugly like a nest, in the lower edge of Mt. Jogye, Songgwang-Myeon Sooncheon Jeollanam-Do. Inspiration that an artist Goowon Kang got from there is immersed to his painting.

An artist Goowon Kang visited Songgwang-sa, which is a famous temple for ‘Sangha,’ located in Sooncheon. He realized that the stupa of Songgwang-sa was monks, Buddhist saints, and all creatures. And also it was their hearts. The stupa made by their hearts! It is the stupa of immortality, which would never collapse. He saw the most beautiful stupa of the truth in Songgwang-sa where doesn’t have any stupa.

The artist has made sincerely his artwork with the topic ‘A Stupa Made by the Heart,’ having the feeling that Songgwang-sa is the center of human-being.

전라남도 순천시 송광면 신평리 조계산자락에 위치한 송광사 (Songgwang-sa), 이곳에서 받은 영감이 작가 강구원의 작품에 배어있다. 

작가 강구원은 순천시에 소재한 송광사를 방문하여 송광사의 탑은 스님, 보살, 중생들이며 그들의 마음이 탑이라는 것을 깨달았다. 마음으로 세우는 탑! 이 탑이야 말로 영원히 쓰러지지 않는 불멸의 탑이다.  그는 탑 없는 송광사에서 가장 아름다운 진리의 탑을 본 것이다.

사람이 중심에선 사찰-송광사라은 느낌을 받은 화가는 마음으로 세우는 탑이라는 주제로 심열을 기울여 작품을 만들어 갔다.
