Janet Slom is a painter, and an installation and performance artist.
Born and raised on a flower farm in South Africa during Apartheid, she was greatly influenced by the wonder of her natural surroundings and the highly charged political climate.
Janet studied at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and earned her MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. She has taught extensively and is currently a faculty member at
Lehigh University's Iacocca Institute.
Janet grew up on the flower farm Shambhala, a learning center for studies in Eastern philosophy, inspired by the legendary Himalayan kingdom and Tibetan belief that a harmonious and meaningful life are possible through gentleness, courage, self-knowledge and freedom. She was greatly influenced by her natural surroundings and the highly charged political climate.
