Every year, a proportion of the human population of Earth is selected for the Test, a population control measure. A boy named Will Trempton is one of the chosen, and in his efforts to escape his fate, Will inadvertently becomes a bodyguard for the child of a powerful CEO. Will and his fellow bodyguards must ensure that the child survives the Test, or each of their families will be killed. Assuming any of them can survive long enough to see the child through to the end, that is.
