Publisher Description
Samuel "Sammy Shell" Schlitten was a gambler and underworld associate who was closely associated with the Gambino and Genovese crime syndicates. By 1931 New York newspapers mentioned Schlitten's role in the theft of expensive jewelry from Charlie Chaplin's ex-wife Lita Grey Chaplin. The heist occurred as Lita and Georges Carpentier were exiting a theater in New York's Times Square area. In 1963 Schlitten was among 34 "hoods" whose names and addresses were published in the New York City press.
