Lady Penelope cares for all creatures.
Gabriel Duke cares for no one.
Can they care for each other?
Wealthy and ruthless, Gabriel Duke had to fight his way from the lowliest slums to the pinnacle of high society—and now, with a reputation as the ‘Duke of Ruin’, he wants to get even.
Loyal and passionate, Lady Penelope Campion never met a lost or wounded creature she wouldn’t take into her home, and her heart.
When her imposing—and attractive—new neighbour demands she remove her animals, Penny resists his demand and makes a counter-offer. She will part with her precious charges, if he can find them loving homes!
Rising to the challenge, Gabriel does not expect such a simple task to result in intimacy with Penny, and soon he finds this spirited spinster is not the push-over he thought.
But Gabe is not the only one with a past he’d rather forget. And if Penny is intent on saving Gabe, perhaps he might just need to save her first…

Readers Love Tessa Dare
‘I love Tessa Dare who writes sassy, salty heroines with plenty of backbone’ Sarra Manning on The Wallflower Wager for RED ONLINE
‘When it comes to historical romance, for me, no one beats Tessa Dare and this is definitely one of her best. It sparkles with all of Dare's usual humour and wit, and the romance is hot, hot, hot. I started this on my way home from work one Thursday evening and had the whole thing finished that night.

5 Star
‘The main characters, Gabriel and Lady Penelope, are to die for – I loved their first meeting so much. It was funny yet cute and sexy all at the same time…Their story is beautiful’
4 Star
I like this style of fiction – always have since Georgette Heyer times and these series of novels are only reminding me of her but with a small diversion towards modern times – the heroines are less missish and more feisty and not afraid to have sex with their suitors.
I am also, always a sucker for stories with cute animals and hedgehogs in pockets are the best yet’

APPLE BOOKS REVIEW
The third addition to Tessa Dare’s Girl Meets Duke series, The Wallflower Wager is a fun historical romance that can be read on its own, or as part of the series. The book charts the burgeoning relationship between quirky Lady Penelope Campion and her rugged, magnetic neighbour, brought about by Campion’s horde of hilariously strange pets. With fast-paced, witty dialogue and an extremely modern approach to sex and romance, Dare has created a unique and steamy historical romance that stands above its more traditional genre contemporaries.
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Dare outdoes herself with the scintillating third Girl Meets Duke Regency romance (after The Governess Game). Lady Penelope Campion would rather be at home with her rescued animals than out in society, but her Aunt Caroline instructs her to give up her pets and be a proper lady or move in with her brother in Cumberland, a fate Penny dreads. Then Penny meets her neighbor, wealthy commoner Gabriel Duke, while retrieving her escaped parrot. Gabe wants to sell his residence for a profit and believes that having a lady reside next door to him will increase his property value, so he agrees to help find homes for her animals so she can stay in London. As Gabe and Penny spend more time together, she sees the kindness hidden below his drive for success and riches. The attraction between Penny and Gabe is magnetic even as their class difference threatens to destroy their relationship. Authentic characters, witticisms, profound emotion, and echoes of trauma are primary elements in this expertly crafted novel. This riveting romance may be Dare's best yet.
