British author James Malcolm Rymer (1814–1884) is well-known for his contributions to penny dreadfuls, a prominent genre of serialized literature in the 1800s. He is said to have co-authored two important books with Thomas Peckett Prest: "Varney the Vampire" (1847) and "The String of Pearls" (1847), which featured the notorious Demon Barber of Fleet Street Sweeney Todd.


British hack writer, journalist, and musician Thomas Peckett Prest (1810–1859) is most remembered for his work on penny dreadfuls, a prominent genre of serialized fiction in the 1800s. In addition to being a prolific penny dreadful producer, he is most known for co-creating the fictitious character Sweeney Todd, the "demon barber" immortalized in James Malcolm Rymer's "The String of Pearls." Prest and Rymer also wrote "Varney the Vampire" together.
