Inspired by a real family story, an alleged alien television broadcast, and the author's years-long search for a mysteriously missing issue of the Weekly Reader, the places Faer encounters throughout the novel were drawn from real locations that existed during the era.

A NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR
My father remembers seeing an alien hijack his television when he was a child. Stranger still, he remembers reading about it at school the following week in the Weekly Reader.

Decades later, I decided to find that issue. Only Scholastic couldn't find it and neither could the museum that had every other issue from that year.

That was when curiosity became a novel.
