There was a time when things were nearly perfect for Lucy, but she's had a difficult summer. First, her nanny is blown up right in front of her by a package-bomb disguised as a gift. Then, she spends three months in the hospital, recovering from her burns. And while she's there, she also happens to turn eleven, though no one thinks to throw her a party, not even her parents, who are very busy people. Not that Lucy figures she deserves a party; it's her own fault that her nanny is dead. After all, the gift was meant for her.
