JV has known for a while that Maggie is his heart and soul. Getting her to see that is nearly impossible when she is suffering from a curse, and she is married to someone else. The only way he communicates with her is through talking to her adorable children in the grocery store every week.

When a tornado rips Maggie's home apart, JV can't help but rush to the rescue, and if he's going to do that, he is going to face the curse he's been avoiding. If he fails, everything he loves will be lost.

Maggie believes a curse hit her mother and brother, and that she's the one to free them from it. Eventually. Staying close to Trent makes the curse manageable, so she is unprepared for the tornado that takes him away. If she is to come back from turning into a shadowy demon wolf, she has to let her heart, body, and soul trust a wolfman she hardly knows.
