Two girls are missing

Mac Davis has no desire to return to the North Cascades, a cold, remote part of Washington State. The last time he was there, he had barely made it out alive. But two little girls are missing, and some people have called in a favor.

There are plenty of people who could search for the girls better than he could.

But their father is missing too. A veteran with PTSD. And there weren't too many people who are better able to go after him — and care enough to bring him back alive. Because Mac understands. Sometimes the war zone comes home with you.

So he'll go. He's not happy about it, but the least he can do is make sure a fellow vet gets a hearing before everyone concludes he killed his daughters.
