A Foundation of Moral Universalism

Description de l’éditeur

Everybody has a different starting point in life, determined by physical environment, gene, history, social conditions, economic opportunities, cultural climate and the freedom and cooperation allowed by the people ruling and controlling the resources and institutions of the society. Individualism creates a complex social maze, where morality is perceived differently by different persons. Many young people these days claim that morality depends on personal judgment about what one feels as right or wrong, rather than something which is delivered from above as true for all. In a multipolar world is it possible to find a universal foundation of moral for all, irrespective of time and place, culture, environment, economic development and mental capacities of the individuals? What are the ways to build such a foundation of moral? Can one find them in the ideas of heaven as many religions have prescribed, or in the realm of pure reason as professed by philosopher Kant? Is there any necessity of the existence of God in deciding the question what is right and wrong? Once such a foundation can be found, what are the practical ways to implement those ideas in daily life? The book deals with this complexity of the moral issue in social behaviors and tries to throw lights on it from rational understanding of the cosmos and the biological science. It attempts to penetrate deep into difficult questions of sociology, psychology and philosophy as well. It also has a part which would interest people who wish to explore the realm of spirituality as the foundation of moral universalism.
