Calendars from the Mayans to Gregory XIII

Description de l’éditeur

With the first civilization, humanity has been cut from the beat of nature, not depending on the seasons for storing food or, thanks to the discovery or fire, continuing their activities during the night. They returned to that beat in order to understand it and enhance their survival as agricultural communities. To have the illusion of controlling nature and its cycles, the notion of time was invented. The new ambition became to discover the laws beyond the cycles of the moon, the seasons or the rising and setting of the sun. The calendar became a need never to be challenged.
