Tying a single strand of holiday lights to their interlocked hands,
Cary and Jesse made their commitment to one another.
“I love you, Cary, and I want you to be my first and my last. Promise me, baby.”
“I love you, too, Jesse. I promise, you will be the only one for me.”
As they made their vows, their hopes were that one day they would be able to afford a big holiday tree with many strands of lights, each one signifying another year they’d been together.

Professing their young love, they believed nothing could separate them … that is
until Cary’s father takes a new job in Lanesboro, Minnesota,
which is a far distance from Monroe, New York when they don’t have the means
to fly to see one another.
