Chivalry

Chivalry, as it is known today, is the medieval code of conduct associated with knighthood in Europe. As a practice, however, it is simply a way and means to uphold the society's sense of honor. The term for a similar concept in Japan was bushido. Historically, it pertained mostly to combat, but as time went by it came to have larger, more genteel connotations.
