The Canis Lupus killer.
Cnut, viewing the body of a beautiful young woman with her throat torn out, apparently by a wolf or a large dog, is almost overcome with horrific memories of the many victims of the Wolfman – a killer he put away many years before, but the Wolfman – Leif Knadsen – is still safely behind bars in Skien Prison.
Is this a genuine animal attack? If so, why is there no blood near the body?
The autopsy throws up more questions than answers: there are drugs in the woman's blood, and she was crudely circumcised only days before her death. A human hand was involved.
Nevertheless, wolf DNA is found at the site of the bite, and more spectacularly and unbelievably, wolf sperm is present in the woman's vagina.
The hope that the crime is a one-off is soon shattered, when another, almost identical, is discovered, and Cnut learns that at least two other similar deaths have occurred in other parts of the country.
He is sure that the Wolfman has found a disciple, and is directing the crimes.
What he does not realise, until both his daughters are abducted by the killer, is that he and his family are the final, intended victims.
The killer sends Cnut a picture, showing Anya locked in a cage with a minimal amount of water, and a wolf in an adjacent cage, to be released at a set time, to devour her weak, dehydrated body. With that strict deadline set by the killer, a desperate hunt to find her begins; a hunt that both Knadsen and his disciple intend will end with Cnut's death.
