Corruption & Cologne

In a sequel to A Surprise Ending, the Martinez family has prospered growing sugarcane. They are Cubans who have not lost ties to the United States. But Castro's revolution is engulfing the country in 1958, and a rift tears through the family. An uncle smells Communism; a nephew is a rebel in the mountains with Fidel. As the revolution triumphs and settles in, a similar rift begins to tear between Cuba and the United States. Battles are fought in fields and in living rooms, but bitterness, resentment, and regret embroil winners and losers alike. A family born in Cuba's war for independence struggles to survive a new upheaval and refuses to surrender its stubborn hope.
