_______
Walking home late at night, aspiring singer Dixie Simmons felt on top of the world.
The following morning, she's found dead.
Thirty years previously, Jeb Jones was convicted of the murder of another young woman. But his lawyer, Rachel Wainwright, is convinced he's innocent.
She just can't persuade the police, particularly charismatic Detective Deke Morgan, whose father worked the original case.
But when the murders continue, and it becomes clear that a serial killer is loose in the city, Deke starts to run out of options.
If the two cases are linked, his father's legacy might be ruined.
But if he doesn't find out the truth, and fast, the killer might just set his sights on Rachel . . .
PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Bestseller Burton (You're Not Safe) ties the past to the present in her latest romantic thriller set in Nashville. Thirty years after the murder of Annie Rivers Dawson, lawyer Rachel Wainwright is trying to get Annie's convicted killer a DNA test. Det. Deke Morgan's deceased father was the policeman who arrested the man, and Deke sends through the request, assuming it will prove guilt rather than innocence. Then a woman who looks like Annie is killed in the same fashion, and more deaths follow. Burton's trademark is providing the serial killer's viewpoint without giving anything away, and by feeding the reader tiny details one at a time, she keeps the tension building. The attraction between Rachel and Deke develops slowly, with respect paving the way for a lasting relationship, and the reader roots for both. A few too many coincidences make this story less convincing than some of Burton's other novels.
