Darkey Ditties

One of five volumes of poetry by Elliott Blaine Henderson, Darkey Ditties contains poems containing the colorful language and images of 1900s Negro dialect. Under-appreciated by critics during his lifetime, Henderson's work has been rediscovered by modern scholars with a new appreciation. Many now declare that Henderson's poems use dialect and folk forms to subtly and deceptively introduce protest to racism into his work.
