Description de l’éditeur
As we read, we come across cannibals who overturn the concept of ‘civilisation’, heroes who give way to a suddenly real humanity, scientists who lose the thread while trying to psychoanalyse the universe. Then there are cats bearing messages of unconditional love, ancient tribes reminding us that ‘wildness’ may be less savage than we suspect, soldiers who learn at great cost the difference between fear and freedom. Sometimes we smile, sometimes our blood runs cold, but in every episode a truth is lying in wait, ready to reveal itself.
These stories come together like the pieces of a mosaic. Each tells of a small, almost intimate event, yet one that is immediately universal. In it we find echoes of our collective history, the myths we have inherited, the religions that have left their mark on us and the dreams we no longer dare confess aloud. At the same time, there is nothing preachy here: you will find no pronouncements carved in stone, no truths imposed upon you. Instead, there is a continual invitation to practise doubt, a space left for the reader to pause and reflect or, if they wish, to reply: ‘But is that really so?’
