Discourses, Book I presents the living voice of Epictetus, one of the most influential philosophers of Stoicism. The thirty discourses gathered in this volume explore some of the central questions of Stoic philosophy: the proper use of impressions, the formation of character, moral progress, providence, education, self-mastery, our relationship with other people, and the preservation of inner freedom in the face of authority, adversity and death.
