Adam is the last human being, a clone of the last man sent into space over two and a half centuries ago, following Earth's demise. A distant son.

While his AI guardians prepare for arrival at a habitable planet where humanity can be restarted, Adam is struggling to feel anything, let alone engage with The Mission. When the AIs hand Adam the next generation he is surprised to learn there are twins, a boy and a girl, who stir unexpected emotions. While grappling with difficult questions about his own birth, he is amazed by the arrival of an alien life craft with one survivor: Iss. The AIs see her as a threat, while Adam sees a fellow soul in torment. Iss upends the carefully nurtured balance of Adam's existence and sets him against his own guardians.
