Caroline Flint knew from the age of eight, when her baby sister was born at home, that she wanted to be a midwife. It was to become a lifelong vocation. For over 50 years she has been a practising midwife working in hospitals, women’s homes and The Birth Centre in London that she ran for over two decades. She has three children of her own and 12 grandchildren – nine of which she delivered. She was President of the Royal College of Midwives, a founder member of the Association of Radical Midwives and the first Chair of the Midwives Information and Resources Service. Now in her seventies, she continues to speak at conferences and runs a twice-weekly 'Bumps and Babies' group for the NCT.
