Description de l’éditeur

This book is included in the 13th series of our “The Most Classical English Literature Library”. It is a selection of Eugene Onegin, a classic work by Alexander Pushkin, a famous Russian writer, poet and novelist. The work is about Onegin, a young nobleman from Petersburg, who, tired of the high society life, by chance went to the Russian countryside. There he befriended Tatyana, the eldest daughter of the landlord Larin family. Tatyana fell in love with Onegin at first sight. After a fierce struggle, she wrote a letter to Onegin expressing her love for him. Onegin, however, did not understand her sincere feelings at all, and frivolously rejected in her presence, saying that it was not appropriate for him to enjoy family happiness. Later, Onegin killed his best friend Lensky in a duel and left the countryside. A few years later, Onegin met Tatyana again at a social event in the high society of Petersburg. By this time, Tatyana had become a “goddess” like noblewoman of high society from a simple peasant girl. Onegin, driven by vanity, was smitten with her and desperately pursued Tatyana. Tatyana told him sincerely that she still loved him, but cannot belong to him, because she had to be faithful to her husband.
