Global warming has largely wrecked the planet and population pressures are unsupportable. Government measures to tackle these problems are equally appalling. In the midst of all this, Frank Jervis earns his living selling power tools, off planet. A life which has been ordinary, in the sense of being mildly unusual but unnoticed, is about to change for the worse and the downright weird. Unusual becomes unique - and altogether too many people are going to start noticing him. It's a good job he likes cats.
