Faire Thee Well

Late summer days, jousting knights, a Jester in motley, and a performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream"—can the Renaissance Faire in St. Edmunds get any better? It's the perfect outing for everyone—until a second Jester shows up and murder is added to the medieval mix. . .

The last thing former detective Gillian Byrne sees herself doing is pretending to be a Fortune-Teller at the Faire, but it is either that or having to act in the play before an overly talkative audience. Everyone tells her she is ideal for the role of mystic and helps her decorate her tent with paranormal artifacts. Armed with a deck of Tarot cards and a crystal ball, her one thought is to make sure customers know she isn't for real.

While exploring booths that offer everything from ancient maps to herbal remedies, Gillian encounters a vendor dressed like a Renaissance merchant and selling mead. When he goes missing, she's shocked to learn he's been strangled with a garrote. Why? A piece of black and white motley at the scene suggests one of the Jesters could be the killer. But is he? Is there a secret society in the Faire?

Or is there, Gillian wonders, a killer with a far more dangerous agenda who wants to make sure he gets to all his quarry? She intends to find out   . . .
