The Pulitzer Prize-Winning Photography of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

Description de l’éditeur

On Aug. 9, 2014, Michael Brown, 18, was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson, Mo. In the hours after the unarmed teen’s death, people gathered to protest the shooting. The police responded by blocking the road to the scene and coming out with canine units and riot gear. The events reignited the issue of race in America.

The Post-Dispatch photography staff immersed itself in the story, from covering the big moments when thousands of mourners came for Brown’s funeral, to the smaller moments such as a gospel choir’s serenade from the back of a flatbed truck.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch has covered this story from Day One. From the thousands of images the staff has produced, the best were selected for this book.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch photo staff was awarded the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Photography for its coverage of the protests in Ferguson. The entry consists of 19 photographs and supplemental material that records the impact of the photographic coverage.
