Nora’s eyelids drooped and her cracked teacup gently tilted to one side, spilling the warm contents over her flannelette nightgown.

A strange hollow sound is heard over the pinecones crackling in the fireplace’s smoldering coals.

Her husband’s gentle voice filters through the cold house. It drifts from upstairs while his steps pad down the creaking flight of stairs.
