Fresh Baked Bread: Conversation- Based Extensive Reading for English Language Learners-Classroom and Self-Study

Fresh Baked Bread is a conversation-based extensive reader that extends the qualities of extensive reading in a manner that serves the development of oral fluency. The text provides extensive reading material and, consequently, addresses and assists the acquisition of knowledge and the development of skills associated with this kind of material, among which are gains in reading fluency and comprehension, vocabulary knowledge and size, depth and breadth of writing as well as motivation and confidence. However, this reader is unusual in that it is also deliberately designed to be supplementary material for use in assisting the development of oral fluency and, in particular the linguistic, cognitive, interactional, and affective elements of fluency. The text includes a summary of the research carried out in order to prepare the material as well as to assess its validity, adequacy, and quality.
