Fruit Box

Tawny Talltrees has never been to Harlow Ranch Arena. Everybody else has, about a hundred times, and every one of them says the same thing when she asks what it's like - that she'll see.

What she sees, standing at a fence on Friday night, is nine horses out of eleven put their heads up in the same twenty feet of alley and look at the same thing. Nobody else is counting. And when Tawny works out what's up there under the eave of the announcer's box, and does the right thing and tells a grown-up, she learns something nobody warned her about: doing the right thing has a cost, and somebody else pays it.

A beehive that nobody noticed. A crew with a can of poison and a job to do Sunday morning. And two eleven-year-old girls, a stolen ladder, and a wooden fruit box in the dark.

The third book in the Crows Nest Cowgirls series - a rodeo weekend, four friends, and a girl who is certain about exactly one thing and cannot get a single adult to hear it.
