There are few one-offs, but Danny Baker is certainly one of them. An earnest raconteur and well-known radio personality, he takes us in lucid detail through his upbringing in post-war Bermondsey as he messed around in bomb sites and the light industry of London that survived the Blitz. But this is no tale of hardship, of a rough upbringing and a triumph over adversity. Instead, Danny shows us how the same happy-go-lucky style he brings to his broadcasting has illuminated a life full of joy and vivid characters. Like a lengthy chat over drinks in a pub, this is a welcome tale of life in all its glory.
