Abstract In this article, we study the information content of these assets under IAS/IFRS when compared to French GAAP for French companies listed on the SBF 250 index. We show that the transition to IAS/IFRS did not change the overall amount of intangible assets, even though it operated substitution effects in favour of goodwill. However, total intangible assets and goodwill gain greater accounting relevance when they are valued according to IAS/IFRS. By applying these standards, financial markets can better integrate such contributions into share prices and returns, especially for companies with a high intensity of intangible assets.
