Charlie left Earth ten years ago. That was when the Prukin invaded, and everything changed. 
She tells herself it wasn't her fault. She may have been the President's daughter, but she was also just a stupid kid who fell for the wrong boy. 
A boy who happened to be a leader in the alien invasion. A boy who enslaved the human race and killed her father.
