Dr Susan Davies and her young assistant, Denesh Praasad, have been working for years to develop a super computer, known as the MSC (Mega Super Computer), to a level that sentience will naturally arise. Frustrated by a lack of decisive results and with the threat of their grant running out of funds, they have reached a critical impasse.
