Jack O' Lantern

On Halloween the ghosts and witches and demons roam, so it is said. On many porches and on windowsills the watch is kept by Jack, he of the pumpkin face and candle eyes, but against what? What dark places did he leave to dwell with us, and why? And what is out there, waiting for us in the dark? What does it want with us?
