Le Morte d’Arthur

What makes a king worthy to stand beside Hector, Alexander the Great, and Julius Caesar? For Malory, the answer begins with Arthur.

In legendary Britain, where a crown must be won as well as inherited, Arthur’s story begins before he can rule. Sir Thomas Malory gathers the old tales into an account of a king’s rise, with Merlin at his side and the Knights of the Round Table bound to his fortunes. Battles, loyalties, love, and the quest for the Holy Grail test what it means to be noble—and whether courage can hold a kingdom together. Arthur is counted among the greatest Christian heroes; what trials will make him worthy of that place?
