Lemorne Versus Huell

A flock of hissing geese sends a horse rearing beside Margaret Huell’s carriage—and the rider’s gaze is fixed on her. She reaches out to touch the horse, but does not look at the man.

In summer Newport, Margaret is keeping her wealthy, ailing Aunt Eliza company—and serving as her secretary in a family lawsuit over a tract of land grown valuable with time. Margaret’s own family has little to spare, so she accepts the visit as duty, not pleasure; Aunt Eliza, meanwhile, is intent on defeating the Uxbridges and their clever lawyers. Then a mysterious horseman appears on Margaret’s drives, while the case takes a turn that has her aunt dictating urgent letters. How will Margaret’s quiet summer change when the lawsuit—and its riders—draw closer?
